Updated 3/23/20

School Closure Extension

On Friday, March 20, 2020 Governor Dunleavy announced an extension of the mandatory closure of all K-12 schools in Alaska to students until May 1, 2020. All student activities continue to be suspended until further notice. All facility use has been suspended until further notice.

This includes all LKSD basketball courts, playdecks, playgrounds and property in general.

Guidance for Employees Regarding Travel

*Issued by the State of Alaska Department of Health & Social Services and Chief Medical Officer Dr. Anne Zink*

Any LKSD employee who is returning from out of state travel starting Friday, March 20 is required to self-quarantine for 14 days. Following that period, appropriate social distancing should be followed.

Starting Friday, March 20, any LKSD employee who is returning from travel in-state from a community with known cases of COVID-19 is required to self-isolate for 14 days upon arrival

to their destination community and monitor for symptoms of illness. Following that period, appropriate social distancing should be followed.

Employees who returned prior to Friday, March 20 will continue to follow the guidance previously issued for Medium and High-Risk areas.

It is important for every employee to educate themselves about the facts and myths of the spread of the COVID-19.

Essential Employees ONLY

Effective Immediately, and continuing until further notice, LKSD will be implementing an essential employees only in our facilities.

Who are essential employees? Essential employees are maintenance, custodial and SA. All other employees are directed to work from home or telework to the greatest extent possible.

On a case by case basis, the Site Administrator or supervisor may make exceptions to allow for limited teaching and support staff to be in the building to work to continue the education

delivery for our students.

For District Office staff, each supervisor, in collaboration with the Superintendent and Ass’t. Superintendent, will determine essential staff in their department. The idea is to severely limit social contact. Social Distancing is critical at this point in time to limit the spread of the virus. Proper hand hygiene is critical.

PLEASE DO EVERYTHING YOU CAN TO LIMIT THE SPREAD OF GERMS DURING THIS TIME, ESPECIALLY TO OUR MOST VULNERABLE POPULATIONS.
