School Closed

The State of Alaska has extended the closure of schools through the end of the school year. The relevant State of Alaska mandates can be found at https://gov.alaska.gov/home/covid19-healthmandates/ Dear LKSD families,

On April 9, 2020, Governor Dunleavy, Commissioner Adam Crum - Alaska Department of Health and Social Services, and Dr. Anne Zink - Chief Medical Officer for the State of Alaska, issued Health Mandate 13: K-12 Public and Private Schools. This mandate was issued to protect the public health of Alaskans, to mitigate the impact of COVID-19, and extends the statewide closure of all K-12 public and private schools from May 1, 2020 to the end of the 2019-2020 school year.

Please know that while LKSD school building and facilities will remain closed, that student learning remains the top priority for LKSD staff and that educational services will continue to be provided via distance-delivery. In addition, LKSD will continue to provide food service following established health and safety guidelines through the end of the school year.

The Administration wishes to thank all LKSD staff for their continued efforts to connect with students and their families, and to provide students with meaningful educational experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic. We’d also like to thank students, parents, and guardians for their flexibility and cooperation during this period of school closure.

Daniel Walker, Superintendent

Kimberly Hankins, Assistant Superintendent
