Ms. Erickson-Grant's 6th graders celebrated Computer Science week by participating in a program called "Hour of Code." After a presentation by Ms. Erickson-Grant, they went online and participated in the coding program. Students were able to move through the game by writing the code to do so. They enjoyed snacks, laughed and chatted, and tried to help themselves and each other. The adults only stepped in when someone was having technical difficulties and the students did all the coding themselves. EVERY student was able to find success at their own pace.
Prior to the Hour of Code, Ms. Erickson-Grant's class has been participating in a course at Code.org for about 10-15 minutes per day since August. They are getting really good! There has been an increased interest not just in playing games but actually creating and coding games to do what they want!
