GJE Attendance Information

Posted Date: 10/09/26 (08:57 AM)

Dear families of GJE,

This year, one of our main school goals is to improve student attendance. Regular attendance is one of the most important ways families and schools can work together to support student learning and success.

Students who attend less than 90% of the school year are considered chronically absent, while students who attend less than 80% are considered severely chronically absent. Each month, GJE will send letters to families of students who fall into these categories to inform you of your student’s average attendance compared to the school average. Our goal is to raise awareness, encourage conversation, and identify ways the school can partner with families to improve attendance.

We would also like to clarify how absences are recorded. In alignment with LKSD’s truancy policy, GJE may require appropriate official documentation for an absence to be marked as excused. Documentation may be required when a student is absent due to illness, an appointment, or another circumstance.

Most importantly, an absence is still an absence when it comes to a student’s attendance in school. An excused absence is not removed from a student’s attendance record, and missed instructional time can affect a student’s learning regardless of the reason for the absence.

If your family is experiencing challenges that are making it difficult for your student to attend school regularly, please reach out to us. We want to work together to identify supports that will help every GJE student be present to learn and grow.

To support this goal, we are implementing a series of attendance incentives at both the classroom and school levels. Please stay tuned for messages from your child’s teacher or the school about upcoming events and opportunities to get involved.

Kind regards,

GJE Administration
