Lego Robotics Teams
On Friday, January 21, 2022, LKSD held the FIRST Lego League qualifier tournament at Gladys Jung Elementary in Bethel.  This year we had 6 teams compete in person and one additional team remotely via Zoom.  Despite having fewer teams than in years past, the students had a great time and were able build upon valuable skills.

  • The PKA Hawks from Napaskiak earned the Judge's Award.
  • Team Tengsuun from Mertarvik earned the Core Values Award
  • Team Solar-X from Bethel-GJE earned the Rising All-Stars Award
  •  The Alaskan Warriors from Bethel-GJE earned the Robot Design Award
  •  The Ayaprun Dog Sledders earned the Engineering Excellence Award
  •  The Eagle Blimp Company from Ayaprun School earned the Innovation Project Award as well as the overall highest robot game score for the tournament, and are advancing to the Alaska State FLL tournament in Anchorage February 5th.
  •  The Lego Wizards from GJE earned the coveted Champions Award for their overall achievements in core values, innovative project, robot design and robot performance, and will advance to the state tournament.
We are very grateful for all of the volunteers who helped with organization, judging and facilitation of the event, as well as our sponsors at the Juneau Economic Development Council and Alyson Cooper who came to Bethel and was paramount in helping our tournament run successfully.

Also, a big thank you to our coaches and mentors who worked with the teams throughout the season, and to the parents who supported their children and made the event possible.
